Do you guys ever just meet someone and feel like you’ve already been friends for forever? No I’m not talking about the metallic skirt, although, it was basically love at first sight… Anyways, that’s exactly how I felt when I met Sam, of Samantha James Photography! She is the beautiful soul who shot our wedding photos (which will be up on the blog soon, I promise). You can see quite a few sneak peeks here on her Instagram so go check em out and give her a follow! After realizing how much I genuinely liked her as a human being, and then seeing how exquisite all of our photos turned out, I knew I had to schedule a fashion shoot with her the next time I was in Michigan.
After all, it was the perfect excuse to get her to hang out with me again! 😉
I had just purchased this fun metallic skirt the week prior and let me tell you, I went back and forth in my head about whether or not to purchase this! Normally, I have few reservations when it comes to fashion. This metallic beauty however, had me thinking “but when/how often am I really going to wear a metallic silver skirt?!” and that my friends, is how we have found ourselves here today. After I got the skirt home (because of course I bought the skirt, you don’t just try on a silver metallic skirt that unicorn dreams are made of and NOT buy it) I started through my closet picking out potential suitors for this new dime piece. That’s when I realized I had SO MANY OPTIONS I could pair it with! I began to wonder how many people out there would pass up this truly lovely skirt for fear of it hanging in the closet for the next 6 months with the tag still on it. Girl, we’ve ALL been there.
Rest assured my metallic loving friends, I am here to show you that you can wear this shiny piece of heaven whether you’re style is feminine or total badass! Heck, you can even wear it to work!
So sit back, relax, and enjoy these stunning photographs captured by my new friend Samantha. And of course, I linked everything you could ever want to know below- so happy shopping!
1. HOW TO WEAR A METALLIC SKIRT LIKE A GIRLY GIRL
This styling of the unicorn skirt is probably the best reflection of me and my personal style. It was so easy to throw on any top from my closet and I would wear this any day, date night or honestly even to work.
I chose a pink top to really play up the femininity of this look and a neutral handbags and pair of block heels to round it out.
This top was from Forever21 and was meant to be boxy, so in order to give myself a waist I half tucked it in in the front. Otherwise, a boxy cut top with a gathered flowy skirt would have been a bit too much on my already fuller figure.
I finished this one off with a couple of really lovely chokers I got in a set from Aldo. Doesn’t the one kind of remind you of the friendship bracelets we used to make growing up?! Comment below if you still have the capabilities to do that and I’ll give you my mailing address…haha
2. HOW TO WEAR A METALLIC SKIRT LIKE A BADASS
This look is definitely for someone who is more of a risk taker than the previous. I mixed it up with this look by adding these patent leather and cheetah print loafers. In the first look, I wanted the skirt to really be the focus, but for this option I wanted each piece to be just as bold as the next!
I thought this graphic tee was fun and most appropriate for this empowered outfit. What are your thoughts on graphic tees? Yay or nay? This one from H&M was super soft so I couldn’t resist!
Of course you can’t be a badass without winged liner and vampy red MAC lippy am I right? Pick a shade that is best for your skintone because all reds were not created equal! I always go with a red that has a slightly blue-ish undertone, but you do you girl!
I highly recommend grabbing a leather jacket for this look. Even as we go through summertime, a jacket that completes your look will also save you from the AC blasting in every bar, restaurant etc.
3. HOW TO WEAR A METALLIC SKIRT TO WORK
Alright, I’m ending this 3 ways to wear a metallic skirt by bringing it home with a wear to work option. I have to say this look is giving me total J. Crew vibes! Now I would totally wear this to work, but I would also wear this out with Kyle or to church and Sunday brunch. (Elastic waistbands are an obvious choice for brunching attire).
This cute collared chambray top (linked below) is a piece I wear often to work already, so it was a no brainer with a little cardigan and pointed toed pumps!
Because this look is pretty neutral, you could wear any colored necklace with it and be set. I just loved the simplicity of these silver layered chains, and again neutral is my favorite color.
I hope you all enjoyed this magical unicorn skirt post as much as I enjoyed shooting these photo’s with Sam and writing this! And let this be a lesson to you, if you can wear a metallic skirt this many ways, you can wear ANYTHING multiple ways and to all kinds of places!

I hardly ever wear skirts and certainly not metallic ones! I tend to try to blend in more lol. Although now that I think about it a lot of my tops are sparkly, so maybe I could get used to it. These outfits are really cute though!
Haha Jen if you can rock a sparkly top you can for sure rock a metallic skirt! xox Stacy
